Welcome to Julie Gough UK artist
Throughout my life I have been fascinated by the mysterious. I read avidly as a child, choosing books about mystery and adventure, and I longed to encounter a mystery or to have an adventure of my own. Now, as an adult, and an artist, I create, or collect, mysterious items and I tell the stories that sometimes accompany them.
I have a special interest in ambiguity, seeking to make, or discover, objects which contain elements of both the familiar and the strange.
By creating objects that appear to be museum exhibits rather than art work I place the viewer in a position of uncertainty, where the provenance of an item comes into question, and the displaying of that item in a gallery setting is challenged.
Making drawings of the items in my collection is an important part of my work.
I hold a first class honours degree in Fine Art and Contemporary Craft and an MA in Fine Art. I am a member of East Coast 7 Fine Art Group based in Lincolnshire in the UK
